Guide

Digital marketing for schools: a practical guide

Written for principals, admission heads and marketing coordinators at Indian schools, colleges and coaching centres. It covers what actually moves admissions — being findable, publishing consistently, and following up on every enquiry — and how to run it without a full in-house marketing team.

The four pillars

Be findable locally

Most parents start with a search or a map. Keep your Google Business Profile complete — correct address, phone, admission hours, recent photos, and replies to reviews. Make sure your website states the board, grades offered, fee enquiry path and location on the first screen.

Plan content around the academic year

Admissions season, results day, annual day, sports meet, festivals, board exam prep, orientation. A month-by-month calendar prevents the usual pattern of silence for weeks followed by five posts in one day.

Show real proof, not stock imagery

Classroom moments, faculty introductions, student achievements with permission, campus facilities, alumni outcomes. Parents judge credibility from specifics, so name the achievement and the year rather than posting generic congratulation graphics.

Answer enquiries fast, in one place

Enquiries arrive from forms, WhatsApp, phone calls and social DMs. Log every one in a single list with an owner and a next follow-up date. Slow or duplicated responses lose more admissions than weak creative does.

The admissions funnel, stage by stage

  1. 1

    Awareness

Parents in your catchment area discover the institution through search, maps, social feeds, word of mouth and local visibility.

  2. 2

    Consideration

They compare boards, fees, results, transport and facilities. Publish the information they compare on, instead of making them call to find out.

  3. 3

    Enquiry

A form, a WhatsApp message or a phone call. Capture the child's grade, the parent's preferred contact time and the source.

  4. 4

    Campus visit

The highest-intent stage. Confirm by message, send directions, and prepare the counsellor with the enquiry details.

  5. 5

    Admission

Record which channel and which campaign produced the admission so next year's plan is based on your own data.
